Melody Finds Her Voice

Melody can’t wait to sing her solo for Youth Day at her church, New Hope Baptist! She has practiced all summer with her grandma, Big Momma and with the help of her older brother and sister, has picked the perfect song to sing, Lift Every Voice and Sing.

However, a few weeks before her solo, a church bombing at the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama kills four little girls. Considered an act of terrorism against Black people in the south, Melody is devastated. The once lively and songful girl, the tragedy leaves Melody silent. She can’t speak or sing—nor can she go into her own church. Will Melody find her voice?
