Nanea and Hula Dancing

With the attacks at Pearl Harbor, Nanea’s big brother, David, wants to do his part and help. He starts by volunteering at the hospital, but with his work commitment at the hotel, there are talks that David might join the army once he turns 18. Nanea cannot bear the thought of him leaving home and fighting in the war. Would he be safe? Would he return home?

With the many changes at home, Nanea turns to hula dancing. Dancing always made her feel better—no matter what was going on. When her hula school has the opportunity to dance at the USO to cheer up soldiers, she feels that she is contributing to the war effort. But is there more that she can do?
