Nanea Learns a Lesson

Nanaea may be the youngest in her family, but she still wants to “dip her paddle in” and help when needed. She loves to help her grandparents, Tutu Kane and Tuto, at their family store, Pono’s Market. Nanea knows she’s grown-up enough to help at Pono’s Market, but what can she do to prove that she’s ready for more responsibility?

When she witnesses the planes attacking Pearl Harbor, Nanea quickly grows up. Now that America has entered the war, her family has to go through different safety precautions such as blackout drills. She has to sacrifice fun times with her family such as a fishing trip with her father and possibly giving up her dog, Mele. She longs and realizes how much she wishes she could go back to being a child again.
