Cécile and Marie-Grace’s Mardi-Gras Mask
Thank you for joining us for our program today. We are so happy that you are here!
For today’s program, we will be making a Mardi-Gras Mask, a craft that American Girl characters, Cécile and Marie-Grace, would have made in their day. Their story takes place in 1853 in New Orleans.
Today’s craft can be found online at Heidi Milton. The following directions make one mask.
Materials
Masks cut out of paper plates or poster board (older kids could cut out their own). Click here to download a template from Heidi Milton
Tongue depressors
Hot glue
Craft glue
Curling ribbon in green, purple and gold
Feathers in green, gold (or yellow) and purple
Mardi Gras confetti or similar
Purple, green and yellow paint
Directions
Cut out your mask using paper plates or poster board.
Paint your mask however you like. There is no right or wrong way.
Once your mask is dry, hot glue tongue depressors and curling ribbon to one side of the back of your mask.
Decorate your mask with feathers and confetti. (TIP: Put craft glue in a cup and use a Q-tip to apply glue to your mask).
Once you're done, let your mask dry once more. Once your mask is dry, you are ready to celebrate!
