Directions
Start by cutting out two lengths of ribbon that are about an inch longer than the length of the headband. Add a few stripes of craft glue to one piece of ribbon. Smooth out the glue with a foam brush or your finger to make sure the entire surface of the ribbon has a very light coating of glue. Layer the second piece of ribbon on top of the first so that the edges of each side line up. Allow the glue to dry. This will create a stiff piece of ribbon to use for the headband.
Use one thin line of craft glue to attach the stiffened ribbon to the headband. You can use masking tape to hold the ribbon in place while it dries.
Once the glue has dried, trim up each end, leaving a little less than half an inch of ribbon. With a parent or adults help, use a lighter to burn the edge of the ribbon. This will keep it from fraying.
Use hot glue to secure each end of ribbon to the back of the headband.
To make your bow, cut a length of ribbon long enough to create a loop that when flat will be the size of bow you want. With a parent or adults help, use a lighter to burn each end of the ribbon to keep it from fraying. Use hot glue to make the ribbon into a loop.
At the center of your loop, create a small notch on each side with your scissors. With a parent or adults help, burn each notch to keep it from fraying. The notch will allow you to create the loop around the middle of your bow without too much gathering. This will give you a flat, ’50s style bow.
Take a small piece of ribbon and wrap it around your bow, making sure the bow is lying exactly the way you want it. Use hot glue to secure the ribbon and attach it to the headband.
Now your headband is ready to wear!
